"There's definitely at least one time a year..." Xianyao thought about it and said, leaving others speechless.
"..."
You said once every month is already quite often, how can you even say once a year Don't tell me I'll want to hit someone after hearing this.
"I'm too lazy to deal with you. Anyway, I will just pretend that you don’t exist." Qi Yanran said.
"Cough cough, the weather is really nice today," Xianyao smiled and said.
"..."
And so, Xianyao and Black Snow left the Demon Realm, while Qi Yanran could only stay in the Demon Realm to handle her matters. Since Qi Yanran was not there, Xiaofeng and Ah Qing naturally wouldn’t be with Xianyao either; they were not that familiar with him.
"Black Snow, you should go back to the Free-and-Easy School first."
When Xianyao bade farewell to Qi Yanran, he looked at Black Snow and said seriously. He did not want to return to Luo Family together with her now; this was neither a case of him going back on his word nor that he hated Black Snow—it’s just that this setup made him feel very uncomfortable.
The Demon Sound School actually wanted to send out an entire team, though it wasn’t many people but still more than enough for Xianyao. If they were all together, it would be too obvious a target for him, and he didn’t want anyone to know his whereabouts in the next two months.
Moreover, he also did not want this team to enter Luo Family; that wouldn’t just be one Black Snow anymore, which made things inconvenient.
"What are you doing Once we leave the Demon Realm, they can go their way and we can go ours. They will prepare at the Free-and-Easy School first while we’ll join them later," Black Snow said irritably. When she knew what he was thinking, she immediately explained.
"That’s fine then, but your target is a bit too large. I suggest you split up after leaving the Demon Realm," Xianyao said.
"Rest assured, we have a certain status there. Although the Demon Realm is known as forbidden territory outside of it, there are still many people who come and go," Black Snow said. This was also something secretive; although it couldn’t be openly talked about, it was allowed.
"Oh, I see. Then that’s fine then." Xianyao nodded. He knew this matter as well; originally Qi Yanran could have used her identity to leave too, but now her status is too sensitive.
But such off-the-record rules also had their issues. If the identity was discovered, it would still be very dangerous, which was something Xianyao worried about. Of course, he used to worry for Qi Yanran’s sake before. Now there was no need to worry about these people.
After leaving the Demon Realm, Xianyao and Black Snow parted ways with them. It had been half a month since they left the Demon Realm; Tianmo City was located deep in the heart of the Demon Realm and quite far from its edge, so it took some time to get there due to the terrain issues. Half a month later arriving at the edge was already considered quick.
There were only two months left now, and these two months weren’t necessarily accurate either—losing a few days wouldn’t matter; he believed that Qibu would not be so nitpicky about it anyway. Even if he did care, what could he do Xianyao was already far away from him now.
While traveling with Black Snow, Xianyao and himself changed their appearances too, though only slightly to avoid drawing attention. They pretended to be a pair of siblings from an intellectual family who were traveling around the country for inspiration.
Black Snow was a bit older than Xianyao; although not by much, it annoyed her greatly nevertheless. Still, she comforted herself mentally—age shouldn’t matter as long as she could maintain her youthful beauty forever.
Along the way, they visited famous mountains and rivers, various ancient sites. They looked like true scholars on a journey for inspiration; nobody was suspicious of them or noticed their identities.
Xianyao also made some adjustments to Black Snow’s appearance; she still looked very beautiful but not as alluring as before. Even so, she still found herself in trouble, and though she could handle such issues on her own, she preferred letting Xianyao deal with them, which left him feeling helpless.
On this day, they visited a scenic spot then moved to their next resting place. They never looked back; it wasn’t that they stayed in one place for days but rather followed a certain route forward and onward.
Xianyao had planned all of this meticulously—he considered every aspect so that there would be no situation where they’d have to spend the night outdoors. Perhaps they might stay at some temples or mountain pavilions along their journey, yet there wouldn’t be any breaks in which they would spend nights out in the middle of nowhere.
Unless he deliberately wanted it that way—some scenery could only be seen out in the wilds where no one lived for miles around. However, Xianyao didn’t choose such places.
In this moment, they passed by a suspension bridge connecting two cliffs. Such bridges weren’t uncommon; under these harsh conditions, they were simple and cost-effective means of transportation.
If the suspension bridge was wider, it might even accommodate carriages—though extremely heavy ones would be out of the question unless someone wanted to court death.
The suspension bridge in front of Xianyao wasn’t large; only one person could cross at a time. After reaching that cliff, there seemed to be another similar suspension bridge on the other side. It appeared there were quite a few cliffs here and they were split up into several parts, linked together by these bridges.
This is also a famous and wondrous place where some people specially come to appreciate the unique scenery here, walking over terrifyingly high suspension bridges.
The highest number of suspension bridges can be found here compared to anywhere else. Almost every cliff has one with the longest stretching for hundreds of meters. The existence of these iron bridges is a wonder in itself.
Some cliffs seem to even house people, forming unique villages. Xiaoyao was originally planning to spend some time and eat at this village, which is called Stone Forest Village.
"I say, do you really need to act like that Are you afraid of crossing these suspension bridges" As Xiaoyao stepped down from the bridge, Heixue almost hung onto him, looking very scared.
However, this was just an act. Could Xiaoyao not understand her She had never been scared when standing at great heights. This must be a fake show.
"I'm really afraid. I'm just a weak woman. Are you still my brother or what" Heixue said unhappily, fully in character, as she was currently playing the role of Xiaoyao's sister, Le Xiaoxue.
"... " Xiaoyao didn’t answer. It wasn't that he couldn't answer this question; it was just that he saw something happening that made him unable to respond to Heixue immediately.
He saw a somewhat disheveled martial artist coming from ahead and then cutting the suspension bridge with one sword slash.
"What do you mean by doing this"
Since it happened suddenly, Xiaoyao and Heixue just watched without intervening. They only reacted later when they tried to understand what was going on. Why would someone cut a suspension bridge like that
Luckily, they had already crossed over before this incident; otherwise, they might have fallen off the broken bridge. Clearly, the martial artist hadn't considered whether anyone was on the bridge and just cut it without hesitation.
"If you don’t want to die, ask less." The martial artist said coldly with a condescending glance at Xiaoyao and Heixue before walking away.
Xiaoyao and Heixue were currently portrayed as weak scholars. In the eyes of a martial artist, they were just two passing scholars without any trace of martial aura.
Xiaoyao was hiding his true strength deeply; even gods would find it hard to detect his level. As for Heixue, she didn’t cultivate much inner energy originally, so her inner energy was faintly present and only experts could notice anything about her. This martial artist clearly wasn't an expert.
Xiaoyao was now puzzled by the actions of this martial artist. There was likely only one purpose to cutting these bridges: blocking passage in or out. Judging from his disheveled appearance, it seemed he aimed at preventing outsiders from coming in. Yes, that was the most probable scenario...
Wait a moment If he's stopping people from entering, does that mean he’s cut all of the suspension bridges
"Have you cut all the suspension bridges" Xiaoyao asked.
"Yes. If you want to leave, I won’t stop you." The martial artist replied coldly.
"You…" Heixue wanted to say something but was pulled back by Xiaoyao who silently told her not to continue. Following Xiaoyao, they entered the small village.
The village was on a cliff that resembled a tall cylindrical column reaching into the clouds. Without suspension bridges, it would be extremely difficult to get up there; ordinary people could never do so.
Those who could climb were also faced with great difficulty and could easily be harassed by defenders if someone guarded the top of the cliff, making their ascent impossible. In short, this place had become a highly defensible location where simply cutting off all suspension bridges would block access.
"Let's see what's going on here. These people seem troublesome; we shouldn’t provoke them." Xiaoyao said to Heixue as they walked in.
"Fine, I'm not bothered with these small fry," Heixue sniffed dismissively. With her background and status, even ordinary experts or major forces were nothing but minor players to her.
Regardless of whether it was the Demon Sect or the Demon Clan, she held an important position from a young age and wielded real power.
"You two are really unlucky to come here at such a time…"
The moment Xiaoyao entered the village, villagers approached them. They looked scared at the sight of those martial artists, but Xiaoyao and Heixue didn’t instill fear in them. Instead, they shared a sense of sympathy with the villagers, making them feel closer.
"Sir, what's happening here" Xiaoyao asked.
"We don't know either. All we know is that as soon as those people arrived, they started destroying our suspension bridges. There were originally five iron bridges connecting this place, but now all of them are broken. How can we go in and out from now on" The villager shook his head, clearly confused by what was going on here. (To be continued)pe began to appear in her eyes."......" Princess Ning Ying was unable to speak, because she could not say anything at all."Your Majesty, is this place convenient" Xiao Yaoci suddenly asked Ling Zhiyua...
